DESCRIPTION OF ITINERARY:
DAY 01: AREQUIPA – CABANACONDE – COLCA CANYON + STOPS: Early morning around 7:30am a driver & guide will pick you up from the hotel in Arequipa (Peru) then you will be driven to Colca Canyon which is located 165km away from Arequipa and 42km from Chivay town, during the journey we will pass near to the foot of the volcano Misti, and then by pampas Cañahuas place where there is the National Reserve of Vicuña (wild camels with the finest wool in the world). Here you can see the snowy peaks of Misti, the Vizcachani, The Pulpera Callalli, Sibayo and Tuti Village, the giant rocks castles as well as the flora and fauna. We will make a brief stop at restaurant of Patahuasi to take some hot drinks or go to the bathroom. Tojra place where graze lot of alpacas & vicuñas. Then we are going to ascend up to 4910 meters, place called Patapampa, from there you can clearly see the Grand Canyon of the Colca, the snowcapped volcano Misti (Arequipa). According to the Andean custom, formerly travelers crossed mountains and left in their way on the highest part of the way (apachetas) small stones making a wish and leaving all the fatigue in these stones, for this reason that there are on this place (Patapampa) many piles of rocks left by the travelers. Then we descend to Chivay, a small village on the river of the Colca Valley. We arrive to the village of Chivay around 12:30pm. Free time for lunch in Chivay village. In the afternoon we continue to Cabanaconde village, a car trip of 1:30 hours (Chivay-Cabanaconde 55km). Arrival in Cabanaconde around 15:00pm, then transfer to hotel. Overnight in Cabanaconde.
DAY 02: CABANACONDE – CUSCO + STOP EN ROUTE: Breakfast at hotel. Early morning around 6:30am (suggested) a driver will pick you up from the hotel in Cabanaconde (Colca Valley) then you will be driven to Cusco (Peru) making stops on route at villages of TUTI, SIBAYO & The Pulpera CALLALLI where there is the giant rocks castles (natural rock formations by the erosion). Our next stop is CONDOROMA Dam which is 4740m (highest point of our trip), following with our journey we reach to YAURI village, a lovely place by its stone forest unique in this area. LANGUI name of one of the four Lakes locally known as (4 lakes) where there is flora and fauna. SICUANI: We stop to have lunch at a quiet countryside restaurant where you will enjoy the traditional Peruvian dish (buffet lunch). RAQCHI: After lunch we continue with the trip visiting Raqchi, one of the most important places in the Inca times, as Raqchi was the limit between Cusco and Puno (route to Collasuyo) for that reason was built here over 200 barns (food stores, to save food in the drought time), agricultural terraces, stone walls, and qolqas (store houses). Also here is located one of the largest temples built in the time of the Inca Pachacutec to devote as worship to the god Wiracocha. There is a great central wall with a stone base likewise there are other walls built of adobe (water, mud and straw) now a day it is used to build houses in rural areas in the Andes. The central wall has a height of 12m, 92m long, 25.5m wide, 1.20m thick walls, its roof a slope of 50°, the columns were 1.60m in diameter and height of 9.80m. ANDAHUAYLILLAS: Typical Andean village from colonial time, of origin and unique architecture located 40 km away from Cusco on the river Vilcanota. In Andahuaylillas stand out its Catholic church from the colonial time with a beautiful mural decoration since XVII and XVIII century known as the Sistine Chapel of América, the quality of the artwork found inside. This church was built on Incas construction by the Jesuits in the XVI century, with walls of adobe and stone columns. Inside of the church left side is the inscription I baptize you in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit Amen, the most interesting is that the inscription is written in 5 languages like Latin, Quechua, Aimara, uro puquina and Castilian (uro puquina extinct). Arrival to Cusco around 17:30pm (suggested), then transfer to hotel.
