DESCRIPTION OF ITINERARY:
DAY 01: UYUNI – TRAIN CEMETERY – COLCHANI – INCAWASI ISLAND – CHUVICA: Morning around 10:00am a driver & guide will pick you up from the hotel in Uyuni (Bolivia) then you will be driven to Train Cemetery the first railroad in Bolivia, which worked on the route from Uyuni to Antofagasta in 1899, as freight and passenger train, carrying minerals from Huanchaca mine. The age of the trains lasted a short time; locomotives that were stopped by lack of maintenance were transferred for storage to Uyuni and so it was born the train cemetery, which now is part of an industrial past. The railway expired definitely with the capitalization in 1993 and the systematic dismissal of nearly 1,000 workers. Then we continue to Colchani Village, a small town located on the shores of the Great Salt Lake, 22km away from Uyuni, with a population of few hundred Indians, which is the main entrance to Salt Mines, the biggest salt deposit in the world. Colchani is 3680 masl and with an area of ​​12,000 km ², which was formed by the evaporation of ancient seas, where the main activity is the extraction of salt in traditional way as the process of drying, grinding and bagging. Colchani is only 2 km away from Salt Lake where it was extracted the salt. Then we enter to the salt flats to see salt water eyes (ojos de agua salada) from where the salty water is emerging. The salt plain is made by about 11 layers of salt; its thickness varies between 2 and 10 meters. It is estimated that there is 10 billion tons of salt, so it would be one of the biggest reserves of lithium in the world. Then we enter to salt desert to explore the salt water eyes (ojos del Salar) natural conduits that end in holes through which salt water circulates. Then lunch included during trip. Afterwards we continue to Isla Incawasi, located in the desert of salt, the Incawasi Island is populated by numerous giant cactus with up to 10m height, from the top you can admire the wonderful landscape of the salt plain and it has an area of ​​12,000 km ². The island is completely deserted, like all the other islands of the salt plain. Free time to explore Isla Incawasi. Afterwards we go ahead to Chuvica, typical village located south side of Uyuni salt flat, to 48km from Incawasi island, making stops en route. Afternoon explore the surroundings. Dinner included at local lodge. Overnight in Chuvica village.
DAY 02: LAGUNAS ALTIPLANICAS – STONE TREE – COLORED LAGOON – HUAYLLAJARA: Breakfast at the lodge. We start our journey passing the Chiguana salt flat, which has a lower salt concentration, then we continue in direction to highland lakes (lagunas altiplanicas), observing mountain of colors en route, besides stop at viewpoint of Ollague volcano (5870 m.a.s.l) located to 15km of distance on the border of Bolivia and Chile which is still active and on the left side the impressive mountain Tomasamil. We arrive to the lagunas altiplanicas as Cañapa lake, Hedionda lake, Chiarcota lake and honda lake, the lagoons are surrounded by mountains and during the winter snowy peaks, en route can be seen flamingos and mountain rodents (vizcachas). Lunch included during trip. Afterwards we continue with our trip, making stop at Siloli desert and stone tree. Finally we arrive to Huayllajara, where is located colored lagoon and also our lodge. Colored lagoon (laguna Colorada) lies 151 km away south of San Juan village at an altitude of 4278 metres and covers an area of 60 km², where there are more than 40,000 flamingos. The rich red colouration is due algae and plankton, and its minerals, where the shoreline of lagoon, is fringed with brilliant white deposits of sodium, magnesium, borax and gypsum. Afternoon explore the surroundings. Dinner included at local lodge. Overnight at Huayllajata lodge.
DAY 03: GEISER MORNING SUN – WHITE & GREEN LAGOONS – SAN CRISTOBAL – UYUNI:
Early morning, a guide and driver will pick you up and then you will be driven to visit the Geysers – fumaroles (volcanic zone) Sol de Mañana, as known as “Morning Sun”at 4,850 m.a.s.l, where lies a geyser basin with bubbling mud pots, hellish fumaroles and aroma of sulphur fumes boiling at 150-200 Cº. This small crater of intense volcanic activity, remind us the age when earth was formed. Then breakfast included. Afterwards we continue with our journey passing the thermal baths of Polques – Challviri, here have the opportunity to take a bath in outdoor hot springs at 35 Cº water, laguna Salada (salty lagoon), Salvador Dali desert (the highest and driest desert in the world). Following our trip we visit to the Lagunas Blanca y Verde (White and Green lagoons) located at the foot of the volcano Licancabur (5,960 m.a.s.l), the green colour of this lake is due to high concentrations of lead, sulphur and calcium carbonate that have the geological formations of the area. Lunch included during trip. Afterwards free time. Then, a return trip from Laguna Verde to Uyuni; passing by Rock Valley – Villa Alota village – Kulpina k – San Cristobal where a baroque church and colonial paintings can be seen. Arrival in Uyuni around 17:00 Hrs. Transfer to hotel.

DAY 02: TUNUPA VOLCANO – CHUVICA VILLAGE: Breakast at the lodge. You will be driven to to visit the mummies of Coqueza and viewpoint Tunupa Volcano. We start to walk from 4200 m to climb up to 4500 masl. This is the best viewpoint to observe the salt desert and the Tunupa Volcano. Mummies of Coqueza, the first stop that we make is to visit the mummies and chullpas (ancient tombs), a short walk from where we leave the jeep. The legend says that the chullpas has many years, in other words when this world was created, the mummies are located at the foot of the volcano, the people from here say that no one touches them or take them out, because it does get sick, we have to respect to the mummies. Tunupa: It is a volcano located south of the department of Oruro, near to the Salar de Uyuni with a height of 5432 meters. The name it has is due to the god of thunder and lightning TUNUPA. In the area grows some plants like yareta and thola, etc. Also there are some animals like the llamas, Chinchillas and flamingos. The volcano is the guardian of the Salar de Uyuni (salt deset). We have lunch at Coqueza or the foot of Tunupa. Then we continue with our journey, crossing the salt flat of Uyuni in direction to Chuvica village. Arrival in Chuvica village. Dinner included at lodge. Overnight in Chuvica village.
Note: If you want to climb the top of the Volcano (5.435 meters above sea level) you should leave earlier, it will take approximately 4 hours hiking up and 2 hours down.
If you do not climb Tunupa volcano, we continue to Isla del Pescado, then to Chuvica village.
